Why ground-source is the better option
Ground source heat pumps (GSHP) are very efficient when compared to air source heat pumps (ASHP) – across a year they are up to twice as efficient to heat a building and up to four times as efficient to cool a building. In cooling mode, a GSHP captures surplus heat in the building to recharge the ground. GSHP are also very quiet and can be easily tucked into a cupboard and out of site.
However, traditionally GSHP have had to rely on expensive boreholes or extensive horizontal pipework networks to provide the ground heat exchanger often making the equation of efficiency against cost tipping to ASHP. Enviga’s patented & innovative Thermo Foundations provide a ground-heat exchanger by utilising a sub-structure solution formed using steel screw piles.
This makes it the most affordable net zero operational carbon GSHP heating and cooling option, which is equal in cost to install ASHP or even cheaper for developments on brownfield sites or sites with trees.
Typically for a two storey building, our Thermo Foundations costs start at £70 per sqm* GIA for Volumetric build systems and £140 per sqm* GIA for panellised build systems as this also includes our innovative Thermo SlabTM floor system.
